The Rehearsal S2

Embracing awkwardness is what Nathan Fielder does best but in season 2 of The Rehearsal Fielder embraces the challenge of communication; especially in stressful situations in aviation with first officers and their captains.  Big takeaway is how far Fielder goes for his craft by putting himself  “into someone else’s shoes” and the show further encouraging human to human communication (no matter how awkward it makes us feel).

My highlighted episode - S2E3: "Pilot's Code”

Rick and Morty S8

While the show is over a decade old I never invested time into what seemed like my least favorite grandparent animated (or my aging father occasionally slipping into his father’s shadow). However with time, recasting (one of the main, since fired, co-creators) and hiring outside of a specific perspective I re-pledged my allegiance to Adult Swim and made it though the entire series of Rick and Morty. Including Season 8 this year which stood out to me the most; it emphasizing a "healthy" balance of light and dark "everyone sucks, until they don't" humor.

My highlighted episode - S8E6: "The Curicksous Case of Bethjamin Button”

The Pitt S1

Much like what E.R. did during its 15 season run The Pitt continues to highlight our (American) biases, mental health, addiction, relationships, (saving) life and (grieving) death, capitalism and our access to the healthcare system. All in the current climate in this country, 5 years post pandemic, in a 15hr hospital trauma shift (each episode is an hour of one day). Looking forward to S2 and universal healthcare in my lifetime.

My highlighted episode - S1E12 “6:00 P.M.”

Andor S2

I’m still trying to understand American’s ignorance to forget the past instead of a willingness to understand (with empathy) and evolve; maybe if we did we wouldn't be fast-tracking into fascism.

It's probably why I, a child survivor of a civil war that was backed by an empire, continue to gravitate towards art to process, understand and, maybe naively, showed me that there are signs of hope in humanity...

Nervous is good, it keeps us awake.

Rouge One was by far the best Star Wars universe spin off movie and I was eager to see how the two season miniseries, Andor, would sync up to Rouge One.  It did not disappoint and felt it was an important show to that hit hard on topics that were playing out in real time. Learning who to trust, media being weaponized and used as an "imperial news" propaganda machine, imperialist playbook of destabilizing a region and stealing their natural resources, sacrifices and the weight it bares on survivors, a real time documented horrors of a genocide.

Andor is a must see series with phenomenal acting, visuals and syncing up to Rouge One. May it spark a light of rebellion a hope for humanity to friends everywhere.

My highlighted episode - S2E9 “Welcome to the Rebellion”
